Trigger points are essentially areas of pressure that have developed in the muscle.  Trigger points occur when bands of muscle experience excess tension, causing pain in a particular muscle or in the spine.  This is often referred to as a “knot” in the back, neck, or a specific muscle.  These knots can cause numerous problems including:
